Invisalign: The Life-Changing Alternative to Traditional Braces
Straighten Your Teeth Without the Drawbacks of Traditional Braces
It’s no secret that straight, well-aligned teeth are an important part of a great smile. Unfortunately, the inconvenience and discomfort often associated with traditional braces keep some of our patients from wanting to straighten their teeth. For these patients, Invisalign could be the perfect solution.
How Does Invisalign Work?
Invisalign uses a series of soft plastic aligners that fit comfortably over your teeth to gradually and gently straighten your smile. These aligners have no metal, are virtually invisible, and are custom-made for your teeth. No wires or brackets to irritate your mouth! Unlike traditional braces, you can remove your Invisalign aligner during your oral hygiene routines and while eating your favorite meals. Brushing and flossing are not complicated and you don’t have to give up any of the foods you love.
What Issues Can Invisalign Correct?
Invisalign corrects many of the same issues as traditional metal orthodontics. Below are some common dental problems that aligners can repair:
- Overcrowding – when there is very little space for the teeth in the mouth, the teeth tend to overlap, making it very difficult to have the best oral health possible. Overcrowding can cause poor dental health because of tooth decay and increase the chances of gum disease.
- Gaps – significant gaps between teeth can occur because of missing teeth or abnormal jaw growth.
- Crossbite – happens when upper teeth bite down on the inside of the lower teeth, leading to uneven wear and even erosion of the bone. Read more here.
- Overbite – is when the upper teeth project further than the lower teeth and is often followed by jaw pain and TMJ disorder.
Underbite – is the opposite of an overbite. The lower teeth project further than the upper teeth creating jaw pain and a possible TMJ disorder.
What Should I Consider When Wearing Invisalign Trays?
Invisalign trays should be worn the recommended 20-22 hours per day, except while eating and drinking. Not following this time frame will extend your overall treatment time. It is essential to remove the aligners when consuming any food or drink as debris can get trapped between the trays and the teeth, leading to tooth decay.
You can expect to feel a bit of soreness for the first few days after each new tray. This light ache is a common symptom and good news as it proves that your teeth are moving into their correct positions. On average, new trays are necessary every two weeks.
How do I care for my Invisalign?
Clean your aligners twice a day by brushing them precisely as you brush your teeth. It takes only a couple of minutes to brush with a toothbrush and water gently.
Each time you take the aligners out, rinse them thoroughly to reduce bacteria. Avoid running them under hot water, as extreme temperatures can warp the plastic. Click here to learn more.
Will Invisalign Affect My Speech?
At the beginning of treatment, most patients experience a slight lisp right that disappears within a couple of days. Continuing to wear the aligners while talking will help your speech adjust quickly.
Why Choose Invisalign Over Other Products?
There are many clear aligner options, but Invisalign is the gold standard. Invisalign has treated 9 million smiles and counting! It is the most trusted brand in invisible aligners.
